We conducted an Eye Camp on December 22nd 2019 at Ginnedhari in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana. This camp is conducted in coordination with Lions Club Hospital, Bellampalli. Tiryani police played a significant role in successfully conducting this camp. Ahead of this camp, Vasudha volunteer team from Hyderabad visited this remote area to discuss the modalities of the camp with the Lions Club team and identified various activities to be done for successful coordination of the camp. As part of the preparation for this camp, we have reached out to all elderly people in the villages of Tiryani mandal through the village Sarpanch with the help of Tiryani Police Sub Inspector Ramarao.
On the day of the camp, made arrangements at the camp facility for the patients by setting up tables, chairs and shelters. Lunch was also arranged for the patients sponsored by Tiryani Police department. As the patients started arriving, registered the incoming patients and coordinated the checkups of the patients with the Lions Club Hospital staff. A total of 104 patients attended the camp. After checking these patients, Lions Club Doctors identified that 33 patients need cataract surgeries. They also identified that 30 patients need spectacles to improve their vision. All the patients visiting the camp received medicines provided by Vasudha appropriately dispensed by Lions Club doctors.
Lions club doctors informed patients needing surgeries to be ready with photographs and certain documentation on a specified day. Vasudha team in coordination with Tiryani police arranged transportation for these patients to take them from their village to Bellampalli (the location of the Eye Hospital) on their planned day. Ginnedhari is about 50 km away from Bellampalli. As on the date of this update, 26 of the 33 patients needing surgery have visited the hospital. Of these, surgeries have been completed successfully for 20 patients. Three patients need an advanced surgery called Pterizium surgery which is not included in the normal surgery provided by Lions Club sponsors. Vasudha sponsored this surgery cost of Rs 3000 per patient. One patient is referred to Hyderabad hospital. One patient needs retinopathy and will be performed at a later time. One patient could not be operated until his blood sugar is under control. The remaining 7 patients needs some support to visit the hospital and Vasudha team will be following up with them to avail the surgery. Vasudha team is following through with the patients that underwent the surgery to make sure they are doing well post surgery. As of this date of reporting, Vasudha team is in the process of procuring Spectacles for 30 patients and they will be provided to the patients by the end of January 2020.
On February 1st 2020, Vasudha team has distributed Spectacles to 30 patients as prescribed by the Lions Club Hospital doctors.
