With an intention to make our villages become self-sufficient, Vasudha team is organizing 100 day Tailoring Classes Camps in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana. Our first 100 day camp is underway at Ginnedhari where 30 women in three 2-hour shifts in a day, 6 days a week are learning Tailoring classes provided by a trainer. Vasudha team procured 2 sewing machines, and necessary training material including 10 scissors, 10 packs of different kind of needles, 10 measuring tapes, 44 tailoring notebooks, 30 sets of pencils, measuring markers, 1500 buttons, 1000 hooks, newspapers, Two boxes of thread bundles with each box containing 100 bundles, about 500 meters of different types of cloth (Polyester, Cotton, Semi Cotton) to assist with the training.
Vasudha team from Hyderabad initially visited Ginnedhari on 8th December to interview the trainer and ensure trainer is qualified for conducting this camp. After satisfactory discussions with the trainer, trainer is selected with a hanorarium of Rs 5000 per month. Vasudha team discussed with Tiryani Police, Village Sarpanches and Woman’s Welfare Association President to ensure this camp will serve its intended purpose. Tiryani Police, Village Sarpanches and Woman’s Welfare Association President promised to spread the word about the camp and raise awareness among the people interested in learning tailoring.
Vasudha team on their next visit to the area on 22nd December organized a camp explaining to all the interested women about the benefits of learning this skill and how it can help them stand on their feet. About 60 women attended the camp and interested in taking the classes. We collected all their names and phone numbers and told them that first camp will accommodate 30 women distributed into 3 sessions in a day, 6 days a week for 100 days and remaining women will be registered into subsequent camp. Women are informed that if someone remains absent for 3 consecutive days without permission, their slot will be given to some other aspirant from the village. Vasudha team selected 30 students for the first camp and assigned them into different sessions based on their location to allow time for their travel.
Our first tailoring class started on January 2nd 2020 and the classes will continue till end of April. At the end of the course, students are expected to stitch a formal wear which will be donated to deserving students from the village. Students that are able to successfully complete the course will be given a certificate recognizing their talent. Local news papers published the activity.
