On April 8th Vasudha team distributed Tailoring Machines to 29 Women trained in our Tailoring Training Center at Tiryani, Asifabad district in Telangana. Based on our earlier experiences with the machines given to other trained women in other centers, we wanted to discontinue this model as we are not sure if everyone availing the machines are actually making full use of it. We were leaning towards setting up central Tailoring Production Centers where all these trained women can come and utilize the machines like a library. But these women, considering their other limitations like small children, requested to provide the machine bearing half the cost. Based on their request, Vasudha paid Rs 4500 while each trainee chipped in Rs 4000 towards the Rs 8500 cost of the machine. Machines were distributed in the presence of Asifabad district SP Shri Suresh Kumar. Certificates were also distributed to the 29 women successfully completing the training.
Vasudha team invites everyone to participate in a 21 day Earth Day Challenge.
The goal of this challenge is to make everyone consciously think about the impact of every action we take on Mother Earth and inculcate earth-friendly, other-life-friendly habits that will decrease the stress on the Earth we are living on.
Last month, scientists made a strange and somber discovery: plants under duress make audible sounds that other species can hear many feet away but aren’t audible to humans. A tomato plant that hasn’t gotten enough water, a grapevine being cut, or wheat growing thin due to poor soil. An unheard wave of silent disconnection — with ourselves, each other and nature — lingers underneath the roars of our world today. As Stephen Levine said, “If sequestered pain made a sound, the atmosphere would be humming all the time.”
In that backdrop, how might we ignite the intelligence of the heart to hear beyond sounds? To look not only from our personal lens, but also from our granddaughter’s eyes? To feel each others’ pain, and to respond with tenderness and love, and bring healing one small act, one square inch of earth, and one human heart at a time?
On this Earth Day, Vasudha team is excited to initiate this small act to make everyone consciously think about their daily actions, think about the stress of these actions on Mother Earth, hear the pain of other life on our home, and take conscious actions to reduce pain experienced by other life on Earth. Here is what you need to do to be part of this challenge. 1) Before 22nd April, spend some time thinking about things you can do to reduce stress on earth and of other life on earth. 2) From 22nd April for the next 21 days, each day take one or more small actions to reduce stress on Earth and help ease pain felt by other life on Earth. 3) Each day post a comment on this article with the action you have taken and the impact you have made. Make sure your contact information is available so that we can reach out to you so that we can work together to help expand the impact we can make together to the world in building world as one family. 4) After 21st day, send your consolidated list of actions for 21 days to info@vasudhaworld.org to be published to our website. This can be a consolidated video of your actions or a list of actions in text form. At the end of the challenge, Vasudha team will review all actions taken by the community we are able to reach and pick top ten people that made the most impact and have them present their thoughts to rest of the community to help inspire all of us in a zoom meet we will conduct on May 20th 7 am PST.
Example actions can be planting a tree, reduce/eliminate plastic usage, reduce use of fossil fuels, compassionate act towards other less fortunate life on earth and any other act you can think of to help Mother Earth and other life on Earth. Every compassionate act to help others counts. Number of people helped adds that many to the count. Don’t stop after the challenge, keep helping other life on Earth.
So get ready and do your bit to help life on Earth. Show your acts through comments on the page.
Vasudha is continuing to help students that have demonstrated good academic record, good attitude and lacking financial support to pursue higher studies by paying their education fee directly to their colleges. Sanaboyina Pavani is a student approached us last September about the inability of her parents to support her hostel fee at Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology at Rajahmundry, A.P. We supported last September by paying her Hostel fee of Rs 72,000. Her college fee was supposed to be paid by Government and they decided not to pay for second term. When she returned to college after a break to write her 2nd term exams, college refused to allow her to write the exams unless fee is paid. She approached us now on April 12 2023 to continue to support her in this situation and we decided to pay her 2nd term college fee of Rs 14675 directly to her college.
On March 18th 2023 Vasudha has successfully started a production tailoring center at Janoor inaugurated by Komaram Bheem Asifabad district SP Shri K. Suresh Kumar. In Jainoor during the last one year, Vasudha has conducted multiple tailoring camps training 100+ women to learn the tailoring skill. To allow them to use this skill and to use it to stitch their own cloths as well as to stitch cloths for others, we have setup a production quality tailoring center. This is setup in the model of a library where anyone either trained by us or someone that learned the skill through other means can come and reserve a time slot to utilize the machines to stitch the cloths. Our goal is to help the women stand on their feet and earn their living.
Vasudha is continuing to help students that have demonstrated good academic record, good attitude and lacking financial support to pursue higher studies by paying their education fee directly to their colleges. We assessed their learning through a tailoring test and they performed well. We are in the process of figuring out how to help them earn their livelihood by providing access to a tailoring machine similar to how we are helping in Asifabad district.
On February 16 2023, Vasudha team visited Kohinoor and Taatiguuda villages in Sirpur mandal and distributed blankets to 150 people in these villages in collaboration with Asifabad Police who have been very actively helping the people in the area to bring them out of naxal influence.
On February 16 2023 Vasudha team visited Tiryani in Asifabad District, Telangana where we have been conducting 100 day tailoring classes for 30 rural women. Progress of the students and their learning has been reviewed by conducting a tailoring test. All the students have done well and confident of using the learned skills to earn their living. These students and the trainer will be given certificates for the successful completion of the course. We are looking into next steps to support these students to earn their living as they need access to a tailoring machine to continue to use their learned skills. We will either be setting up a production center for these women to use their skills and earn their living or provide each student with a machine. That decision will be made in due course based on results of other activities planned in Jainoor mandal of Asifabad district.
