Transportation Support for Students at Sanampudi Primary School

Vasudha is supporting with the transportation of students from far off villages to Sanampudi Primary School for the school year 2019-20. About 15 students are availing this facility and coming to school from their home on an Auto financially supported by Vasudha. With out this facility, it would have been hard for these students to come to school by walk. Vasudha is paying to the school around Rs 21,000 in three payments spread across the year to support this facility to the students. First payment of Rs 7000 for the school year has been paid in October 2019 and the second payment will be paid in January 2020 and third payment towards the end of the school year in April 2020.

Tailoring Classes Camp at Ginnedhari

With an intention to make our villages become self-sufficient, Vasudha team is organizing 100 day Tailoring Classes Camps in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana. Our first 100 day camp is underway at Ginnedhari where 30 women in three 2-hour shifts in a day, 6 days a week are learning Tailoring classes provided by a trainer. Vasudha team procured 2 sewing machines, and necessary training material including 10 scissors, 10 packs of different kind of needles, 10 measuring tapes, 44 tailoring notebooks, 30 sets of pencils, measuring markers, 1500 buttons, 1000 hooks, newspapers, Two boxes of thread bundles with each box containing 100 bundles, about 500 meters of different types of cloth (Polyester, Cotton, Semi Cotton) to assist with the training.

Vasudha team from Hyderabad initially visited Ginnedhari on 8th December to interview the trainer and ensure trainer is qualified for conducting this camp. After satisfactory discussions with the trainer, trainer is selected with a hanorarium of Rs 5000 per month. Vasudha team discussed with Tiryani Police, Village Sarpanches and Woman’s Welfare Association President to ensure this camp will serve its intended purpose. Tiryani Police, Village Sarpanches and Woman’s Welfare Association President promised to spread the word about the camp and raise awareness among the people interested in learning tailoring.

Vasudha team on their next visit to the area on 22nd December organized a camp explaining to all the interested women about the benefits of learning this skill and how it can help them stand on their feet. About 60 women attended the camp and interested in taking the classes. We collected all their names and phone numbers and told them that first camp will accommodate 30 women distributed into 3 sessions in a day, 6 days a week for 100 days and remaining women will be registered into subsequent camp. Women are informed that if someone remains absent for 3 consecutive days without permission, their slot will be given to some other aspirant from the village. Vasudha team selected 30 students for the first camp and assigned them into different sessions based on their location to allow time for their travel.

Our first tailoring class started on January 2nd 2020 and the classes will continue till end of April. At the end of the course, students are expected to stitch a formal wear which will be donated to deserving students from the village. Students that are able to successfully complete the course will be given a certificate recognizing their talent. Local news papers published the activity.

Eye Camp at Ginnedhari

We conducted an Eye Camp on December 22nd 2019 at Ginnedhari in Tiryani mandal in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district of Telangana. This camp is conducted in coordination with Lions Club Hospital, Bellampalli. Tiryani police played a significant role in successfully conducting this camp. Ahead of this camp, Vasudha volunteer team from Hyderabad visited this remote area to discuss the modalities of the camp with the Lions Club team and identified various activities to be done for successful coordination of the camp. As part of the preparation for this camp, we have reached out to all elderly people in the villages of Tiryani mandal through the village Sarpanch with the help of Tiryani Police Sub Inspector Ramarao.

On the day of the camp, made arrangements at the camp facility for the patients by setting up tables, chairs and shelters. Lunch was also arranged for the patients sponsored by Tiryani Police department. As the patients started arriving, registered the incoming patients and coordinated the checkups of the patients with the Lions Club Hospital staff. A total of 104 patients attended the camp. After checking these patients, Lions Club Doctors identified that 33 patients need cataract surgeries. They also identified that 30 patients need spectacles to improve their vision. All the patients visiting the camp received medicines provided by Vasudha appropriately dispensed by Lions Club doctors.

Lions club doctors informed patients needing surgeries to be ready with photographs and certain documentation on a specified day. Vasudha team in coordination with Tiryani police arranged transportation for these patients to take them from their village to Bellampalli (the location of the Eye Hospital) on their planned day. Ginnedhari is about 50 km away from Bellampalli. As on the date of this update, 26 of the 33 patients needing surgery have visited the hospital. Of these, surgeries have been completed successfully for 20 patients. Three patients need an advanced surgery called Pterizium surgery which is not included in the normal surgery provided by Lions Club sponsors. Vasudha sponsored this surgery cost of Rs 3000 per patient. One patient is referred to Hyderabad hospital. One patient needs retinopathy and will be performed at a later time. One patient could not be operated until his blood sugar is under control. The remaining 7 patients needs some support to visit the hospital and Vasudha team will be following up with them to avail the surgery. Vasudha team is following through with the patients that underwent the surgery to make sure they are doing well post surgery. As of this date of reporting, Vasudha team is in the process of procuring Spectacles for 30 patients and they will be provided to the patients by the end of January 2020.

On February 1st 2020, Vasudha team has distributed Spectacles to 30 patients as prescribed by the Lions Club Hospital doctors.

Financial Assistance to Fire Accident Victims at S Moolapolam

We came across an incident in S Moolapolam, East Godavari Dt where few houses of a joint family were completely destroyed by a fire accident. These people are totally devastated and have been left with nothing. They lost college certificates, gold and all other belongings.

They have approached the government authorities for help. Though government officials positively responded, to date, nothing much has been done to help them get back to their feet. Local neighbors have helped them a bit with utensils and a plastic sheet to use as a shelter. With some funds they could mobilize there have started building a house and raised pillars off the ground, but it hasn’t progressed much due to lack of funds.

Looking at their grave situation, Vasudha team decided to help a bit to help them get back to their feet and lead a life. Vasudha board approved to support up to a lak of rupees over a period of time. We have sent Rs 20,000 (Twenty thousand rupees only) as assistance to handle their immediate needs. LBCE Student – Scholarship

A student from Lakireddy Balireddy College of Engineering approached Vasudha for financial assistance for pursuing her degree. This came through one of our volunteer from Singarayakonda who happened to be from the same village as the applicant and also knows the applicant’s family and their financial situation. Our scholarship application was filled and sent to us with all required documentation specified in our application. This student is currently in 2nd of year of the 4 year Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering.

Vasudha Board reviewed documents provided by the applicant. Through the volunteer team we have interviewed the student and parents, reached out to the LB College of Engineering officials to ensure authenticity of the application and associated fees and concluded to support for the applicant’s degree in Bachelors of Engineering in LB College of Engineering.

This is 4 years course and current support is for second year of the course. 2 more years are left. Based on her performance Vasudha would be looking to support her for rest of the years as required.

Student is able to afford a portion of the school fee through the government assistance. Vasudha supported for the remaining school fee of Rs 49,300 (Rupees Forty nine thousand three hundred only) and sent the fees directly to LB College of Engineering.

Books Distribution at Potlur

Vasudha organized books distribution to the students of Mandal Parishat Primary School, Potluru to help them with their studies.

Plantation Drive at Ulavapadu

Vasudha conducted a plantation drive at Ulavapadu in collaboration with Patraharitha Welfare Organization. Patraharita Welfare Organization based in Ulavapadu has specialized the art of developing trees with a certain age in 90 days. Such siblings have a better chance of surviving and can grow much faster to full blown trees. Ulavapadu Sub-inspector attended the event. As part of this event, we have also discussed this program with Sri Sai Olympiad School and the principal readily agreed for the students to adopt the trees we plant and act as care takers for the trees. As part of this drive we planted 20 plants and looking to provide necessary support for them to sustain and grow.

Village Welfare Activities at Ulavapadu

Vasudha has successfully organized a welfare camp at 4 colonies – Venkareddy Colony, Kotireddi Colony, Thirupathi Reddy Colony, GVR Colony in Ulavapadu mandal.

As part of this camp, Vasudha gathered all the students we are providing basic education and their parents to impress upon them of the importance of education and taking care of health.

Student attendance is reviewed and we recognized sincere students that are attending regularly. We discussed with the parents of the students that are often missing the classes to understand the reasons and educated the parents of the importance of education and their benefits.

Vasudha distributed snacks and vitamin bottles for strengthening the health of students.

Dr. Sateesh of Ulavapadu Government hospital explained the importance of menstrual hygiene to the mothers of these children and Vasudha distributed Sanitary Napkins and Iron syrups.

Eye Camp at Ulavapadu

Vasudha has successfully conducted its first eye camp on July 6th 2019, at Ulavapadu GVR Government Junior College. This camp is conducted in collaboration with Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur and District Blindness Control Society (DBCS), Ongole. In preparation for the camp, Vasudha campaigned in all the villages of Ulavapadu Mandal by announcing and going around in an auto.

On the day of the camp, villagers have started showing up from 9.00 am onwards. A total of 176 patients have been registered at the camp and tests have been conducted by Sankara Eye Hospital staff.

Among the patients tested, 77 patients have been found to require a surgery to correct their eye sight of which 5 patients are unfit to undergo the surgery and 11 patients are not in a position to undergo the surgery. 61 patients have been advised to come to the same camp site on 8th July at 4 p.m to be picked up by Sankara Eye Hospital vehicle. After the surgery, patients will be dropped at the same camp site and will be instructed to follow strict after surgery care. A month later on August 9th, Sankara Eye Hospital will be conducting reflection tests as post surgery procedure to make sure patients are progressing well with their procedure. Vasudha volunteer team worked hard to make this possible, in spite of the hot temperatures prevailing in the area.
